StanChart Prolongs ZB ’s Poor Run.
As ZB rues missed chances
StanChart… (1) 1
ZB Bank… (0) 0
A new look ZB Bank, which lost a number of players in the off season, lived to regret a number of missed first half chances when they fell 1-0 to Standard Chartered Bank (StanChart) in a competitive FSSL match played at Standard Chartered Sports Club on Saturday, 5 May 2018. StanChart created a few early chances through the left channel but failed to put these away. Fortune swung to the other end and ZB started creating chances of their own but likewise failed to convert any of them into goals. Right winger Gerald Matanhire (11) and central striker Kelvin “Skippy” Choga (7) took turns to miss gilt-edged opportunities. In one such case, Gerald had a very good opportunity to thrust ZB into the lead but took his time to shoot and a timely tackle robbed him of the ball. Not long after ZB fluffed these chances, StanChart’s central striker Olleny “Belgian” Muringani took advantage of a defensive mix up involving ZB goalkeeper Tinashe Mapfumo to score the decisive goal of the match after 36 minutes.
After the break, StanChart continued to exert pressure but ZB put up a good defensive show orchestrated by centre half Joseph Chiteza (2), which kept the home team at bay. The StanChart defence, marshaled by tenacious Blessing “Gaza” Machingura, was equally resolute so the visitors resorted to pumping long speculative balls into the box in an effort to unlock the defence and create chances but the cause was all but lost. In the dying minutes of the game, enterprising winger Trust “Kolo” Muringai made a fine run on the right, lost his marker and squared the ball but Kelvin “Skippy” Choga failed to connect.
Handled by Class 2 referee Emmanuel Mindozo with the assistance of Stobart Handson (Class 3), the match was also watched by some FBC Moola technical and playing staff whose team had earlier humbled Agribank by a 6 -1scoreline at ZB Sports Club. The StanChart vs ZB match was part of a double header after CBZ earlier dismissed Ecobank 4 -1 at the same venue.
